I'm learning to smile
as best I can
and say that I'm fine
when others ask
and not burden them
with the truth
for they don't really
want to know
or care
I see it as doing them a favor
for they are content
to think that all is well
and relieved
of obligation
So the masquerade continues
I offer my shoulder
when they are in need
and water my pillow at night
in silence
